Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Collection Review

As an avid product junkie, I've tried a fair share of hair products, but the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Collection is one of my all time favourite! With all items infused with fig extract and baobab oil, using any product from this collection on your wash day will leave your hair feeling hydrated and moisturised.

Let's get into it!

Intensive Hydration Shampoo

After detangling, most wash days will probably start with a shampoo. This is a sulfate and paraben free shampoo that has African rock fig, manuka honey and mafura oil as its 3 main ingredients. To use, apply on wet hair and gently massage into a rich lather, then rinse. Repeat, if necessary. This shampoo will instantly clean and hydrate your hair right from the first application. You'll literally feel your hair softening as the first lather begins to form.

Pros:

  • removes product buildup without stripping hair

  • restores dull hair to its original shine

  • moisturises and hydrates hair

Cons:

  • price might be a deterrent for some

Rating: ★★★★★

Intensive Hydration Conditioner

Normally after shampooing, the next step is to apply conditioner. This rinse-out conditioner is also sulfate and paraben free, with a rich blend of shea butter, honey, mafura and boabab. The restorative oils used in this conditioner nourishes and conditions dry and brittle hair. To use, apply conditioner to shampooed hair working from root to ends. Thoroughly detangle hair strands using fingers or a wide tooth comb. Leave for 3 minutes, then rinse.

Pros:

  • leaves hair feeling soft without using heat

  • doesn't strip hair

Cons:

  • could do with more slip to make detangling easier

  • price might be a deterrent for some

Intensive Hydration Hair Masque

Although deep conditioning is optional, it's highly recommended because it strengthens the hair follicles, prevents heat damage and restores lost moisture. This intense deep conditioning masque is infused with antioxidant African rock fig, shea butter, honey and boabab oil. To use, apply a generous amount to clean wet hair using a wide tooth comb to evenly disturb from root to ends. Leave for 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse. For extra deep conditioning, cover hair with a plastic cap and apply heat for 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing. Using heat opens up your hair cuticles, allowing more hydration and moisture to enter.

This hair masque is my absolute favourite from this collection. I apply it at the end of every wash day, wrap my hair in a heated bonnet for 30 minutes then rinse. I'm always satisfied with the end result!

Pros:

  • leaves hair feeling really soft and hydrated (softer if heat is used)

  • smells amazing

  • has enough slip to detangle hair efficiently

Cons:

  • might require heat to achieve maximum hydration

  • price might be a deterrent for some (but it's worth every penny)
